About 20 years ago a football club from Finchley tried to take over the Quinta Field for their own exclusive use. Part of their plans was to fence off the Quinta Field and not allow local residents to have access to it.
As the news started spreading an unusual series of events started unfolding: neighbours started speaking to neighbours and strangers would stop each other in the streets and on the Quinta field to discuss this. Mysterious leaflets were being pushed through our mailboxes alerting an even greater number of people to the problem. Soon after that a core of local residents banded together and started the process to take Barnet Council to court to prevent it. This required quite a lot of organisation, time, fundraising and patience but we persevered with our case. After a five year battle we won! The court ruled in our favour and our humble Quinta Open Space was finally recognised as the Quinta Village Green. A legal designation that will protect it forever.
Our village green has been in the news quite a few times. Below you will find a series of articles that detail our legal battle to protect our Quinta Village Green forever.
